LEGAL ALERT · CYPRUS IMMIGRATION · EFFECTIVE 1 SEPTEMBER 2026

In brief: From 1 September 2026, applications for Cyprus Immigration Permits under Categories A–F must include specified original medical documents obtained abroad for the applicant and dependent family members. A limited exception may apply where qualifying results already remain in the applicant’s Cyprus temporary-residence file.

Written for Cyprus Law Chambers and legally reviewed by Evi Papacleovoulou, Cyprus Lawyer. Last legally reviewed 30 August 2026.

What changes on 1 September 2026?

The Cyprus Migration Department has announced that Category A–F Immigration Permit applications submitted from 1 September 2026 must be accompanied by:

  • original blood-test results conducted abroad covering hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis;

  • an original chest X-ray for tuberculosis issued in the country of origin and/or the last country of lawful residence; and

  • the certification or legalisation required for the issuing country, unless an applicable bilateral arrangement provides an exemption.

The requirement also concerns dependent family members included in the application. The medical documents should be checked as part of the complete residence file rather than obtained in isolation.

Does this apply to every Cyprus immigration application?

No. The announcement is directed specifically to Immigration Permit Categories A–F. It should not be described as a universal rule for every Cyprus residence route.

A Pink Slip, an expedited investor permit under Regulation 6(2), an EU-family residence process and another residence category may have different forms, timing and documentary requirements. The correct route must be identified before tests are booked.

Can earlier medical examinations be reused?

The Migration Department states that the documents need not be submitted again in the limited case where all of the following are satisfied:

  • the applicant already holds a Cyprus temporary residence permit;

  • the relevant medical examinations were previously submitted for that permit; and

  • the results remain in the Migration Department’s administrative file.

Applicants should not assume that the exception applies merely because tests were once completed in Cyprus. The actual administrative file and the route-specific checklist should be confirmed.

Who should act now?

The alert is particularly relevant where a Category A–F file is intended for submission on or after 1 September 2026 and the applicant or a dependant has not yet completed the overseas medical-document and legalisation process.

Before booking, check:

  • the exact Immigration Permit category and intended filing date;

  • the applicant’s country of origin and last country of lawful residence;

  • whether Apostille, consular legalisation or a bilateral exemption applies;

  • whether an official translation is required;

  • whether every result exactly matches the passport identity details;

  • whether each dependant requires a separate set of documents; and

  • whether previous results genuinely remain available in the administrative file.

What should applicants avoid?

  • Do not book a generic medical package before confirming the residence route.

  • Do not rely only on a clinic, agent or insurer to determine immigration-document validity.

  • Do not send original medical records or confidential health information by ordinary email unless a secure and necessary process has been confirmed.

  • Do not assume that a document valid for one residence route automatically satisfies another.

How Cyprus Law Chambers can help

Cyprus Law Chambers can identify the relevant residence route, reconcile the current official checklist, review the document and legalisation sequence, and flag missing or inconsistent items before submission. Clinical testing and interpretation remain matters for appropriately registered healthcare professionals.

Submitting a Category A–F application after 1 September? Request a focused document and certification review before the file is finalised.

Frequently asked questions

Do the new rules apply to every Cyprus residence application?

No. The official announcement concerns Immigration Permit Categories A–F. Other routes must be checked separately.

Which tests are specified?

The announcement refers to original overseas blood-test results covering hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis, plus an original chest X-ray for tuberculosis.

Can results already submitted for a temporary permit be reused?

Can all tests simply be completed in Cyprus?

For affected Category A–F applications from the effective date, the announcement specifies overseas documents. Any later official amendment should be checked before acting.
