Legal update | 14 October 2026

The Cyprus Migration Department has confirmed that, from 1 January 2027, renewal applications for certain residence permits must be filed exclusively online through the government portal gov.cy. In-person renewal submissions at the Department's service points will cease for the categories specified in the announcement.

The digital renewal service began operating in July 2026. The change taking effect in January 2027 concerns the mandatory method of submission for the listed renewals, not a new requirement for all residence permits.

Which residence permit renewals are covered?

  • Temporary residence permits for remunerated employment.

  • Temporary residence permits for domestic employment.

  • Temporary residence permits for employees of companies of foreign interests.

  • Family reunification residence permits for family members of long-term residents and employees of companies of foreign interests.

  • Residence permits for long-term residents.

The published service covers eligible renewals with the same employer, where relevant. It does not cover initial residence permit applications.

When should applicants submit their renewal?

According to the Migration Department's published online-service guidance, remunerated employment and domestic work permits may be renewed during the period from 60 to 30 days before expiry. The window is from 90 to 30 days before expiry for foreign-interest company employees, the specified family-reunification categories and long-term resident permits. Applicants should confirm the applicable filing window and current documents for their own permit category before submitting.

What do applicants and employers need to do?

  • Identify the exact residence permit category and expiry date.

  • Create and verify a CY Login account before the applicable renewal window.

  • Check the current online application guidance and required supporting evidence.

  • If an employer or authorised representative will handle the filing, ensure the relevant authorisation and account access are in place.

  • Retain evidence of online submission and follow any subsequent official instructions.

Does this apply to Pink Slips and permanent residence?

Not generally. The announcement concerns the five categories expressly identified above. It does not state that visitor residence permits (commonly called Pink Slips) or permanent residence under Regulation 6(2) have moved into this mandatory online renewal process. Nor does the online service cover third-country nationals resident as family members of Cypriot, EU/EEA or Brexit citizens. Those applicants should check the procedure applicable to their own immigration status rather than assuming the same portal rules apply.

For employers, foreign-interest companies and individuals planning renewals in early 2027, the practical priority is to check eligibility and CY Login verification well before the relevant filing window.
