Cyprus Pink Slip 2026: Visitor Temporary Residence Guide

The Cyprus Pink Slip is a temporary residence permit for eligible third-country nationals who wish to live in Cyprus as visitors without exercising economic activity. It is not a work permit, study permit or holding status while permanent residence is decided. Applicants must meet the current visitor-category requirements and document lawful entry, accommodation, resources and health cover.

Who is the Cyprus Pink Slip for?

The visitor temporary-residence route is generally intended for a non-EU national who wants to stay in Cyprus beyond the permitted short-stay period and can support the stay without working or carrying on economic activity in Cyprus. Typical applicants include financially self-sufficient visitors and qualifying family members.

A person who will work, study, join a Cypriot or EU family member, work remotely under the Digital Nomad scheme or qualify through a foreign-interest company may need a different route. The correct legal category depends on nationality, purpose, activity and family relationship.

What the visitor permit does not allow

• It does not authorise employment or self-employment in Cyprus.

• It does not automatically lead to or remain valid while a permanent-residence application is pending.

• It does not make the holder a Cyprus tax resident or non-domiciled person.

• It does not grant property-acquisition permission or citizenship.

• It does not guarantee entry if separate entry conditions are not met.

How long is a Pink Slip valid?

A first visitor temporary-residence permit is normally issued for one year. It may be renewed if the applicant continues to meet the current criteria and files a sufficient application. The dates on the permit control. Do not rely on a generic renewal window from an old article.

The Migration Department states that a sufficiently completed visitor application is normally examined within four months. Missing, expired, untranslated or inconsistent documents can extend the process.

What evidence is normally required?

The exact checklist varies by applicant and family composition. Current requirements can include:

• A valid passport and evidence of lawful entry and stay.

• A completed current application and the applicant's physical presence for biometrics where required.

• Proof of suitable Cyprus accommodation, such as a title deed or properly documented tenancy.

• Banking and income evidence showing stable and sufficient resources from permitted sources outside Cyprus.

• Health-insurance or other health-cover evidence meeting the current category requirements.

• Civil-status documents for spouses, children or other qualifying dependants.

• Medical, criminal-record or other certificates where the current checklist requires them.

• Official translations, certifications and legalisation or Apostille where applicable.

Do not use a universal income figure copied from a previous application. The authority assesses the current rules, the source and regularity of funds, family size, accommodation and the evidence submitted.

What are the 2026 government fees?

The published visitor-category fee is €70 for issue or renewal. A further €70 first-registration fee applies when the applicant is being registered in the Aliens Register for the first time. Other document, translation, insurance, medical or professional costs are separate. Confirm the fee immediately before the appointment.

Pink Slip application process

1. Confirm that visitor temporary residence is the correct route and that no prohibited Cyprus economic activity is planned.

2. Check entry status, passport validity and the filing timetable.

3. Secure suitable accommodation and gather current income, bank and health-cover evidence.

4. Prepare civil-status, criminal-record, medical and legalised documents required for the applicant and dependants.

5. Book and attend the competent Migration Unit appointment, pay the required fees and provide biometrics.

6. Respond promptly to any request for further evidence.

7. Track the permit dates and prepare any renewal using the checklist current at that time.

Does buying property qualify someone for a Pink Slip?

No. Owning a home may provide evidence of accommodation, but the visitor requirements must still be met. A tenancy can also be acceptable where properly documented. Property ownership and immigration permission remain separate.

Can a Pink Slip holder work remotely?

The visitor category is a no-economic-activity route. A person who plans to perform remote work from Cyprus should not assume that a foreign employer or foreign clients make the activity compatible. The Cyprus Digital Nomad scheme or another route may be more appropriate, and tax, social-insurance and permanent-establishment issues require separate review.

Does the permit create Cyprus tax residence?

No. Tax residence is tested separately under the 183-day rule or every current condition of the 60-day rule. A Pink Slip can be relevant evidence of presence and connection, but it is not the tax test.

Common reasons for delay or refusal

• Applying under the visitor category while planning to work or run a business.

• Insufficient or poorly evidenced funds, unexplained bank movements or inconsistent source-of-funds records.

• Accommodation documents that are expired, incomplete or inconsistent with the application.

• Insurance, medical, criminal-record or civil-status documents that do not meet the current format, validity, translation or legalisation rules.

• Passport or lawful-stay issues.

• Different information across family applications, bank records, leases and prior immigration files.

• Using an outdated checklist, income figure or appointment procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Pink Slip a retirement visa?

Cyprus does not treat 'retirement visa' as a substitute for the legal category. Some self-sufficient retirees may use visitor temporary residence, while others may consider an immigration permit. The correct route depends on the current criteria.

Can family members apply?

Qualifying family members can apply, but each person needs the required application, relationship evidence, resources and other documents. The family file should be prepared consistently.

Can the permit be renewed indefinitely?

Renewal is not automatic. The holder must continue to qualify and comply with the visitor conditions, and the authority assesses the current application.

Is the Pink Slip permanent residence?

No. It is temporary visitor residence. Permanent-residence routes have separate legal bases, evidence and continuing conditions.
