The 30-second answer
A Danish or other EU citizen generally begins from EU free movement, but the Danish departure file should also address CPR deregistration, Danish tax liability, share and investment reporting, possible departure taxation, crypto, employment, pensions, retained housing and the practical closure or continuation of Danish digital and health arrangements.
First identify the Danish profile
Danish citizen moving alone or with family
Non-EU spouse or permit holder in Denmark
Employee continuing with a Danish employer
Founder or shareholder
Investor holding shares, funds or crypto
Pension or benefit recipient
Family retaining a Danish home or company role
What changes because the move begins in Denmark
CPR deregistration
A person leaving Denmark for more than the period stated in the current rules, or giving up disposal of the Danish residence in certain shorter absences, should complete the applicable CPR deregistration. Health-card and digital-service consequences should be checked as part of the practical departure.
Danish tax liability
Deregistration does not by itself settle the end of Danish tax liability. Housing, family, work, company activity, presence and treaty facts should be reviewed by a Danish adviser.
Share exit tax
Current SKAT guidance identifies departure taxation for shares above the applicable market-value threshold and provides a deferral framework subject to reporting and compliance. All share and fund holdings should be inventoried before the move.
Cryptocurrency
SKAT currently treats certain crypto holdings as disposed of at market value when Danish tax liability ends. A dated wallet and transaction inventory and current Danish advice are therefore important before moving assets or accounts.
Illustrative relocation story
Illustrative scenario — Mikkel and Freja plan to move to Cyprus with their children. Mikkel owns shares in a Danish growth company and a crypto portfolio; Freja wants to remain employed by a Danish company. Their plan requires CPR and tax instructions, share and crypto valuation, employer and social-insurance coordination, Cyprus residence registration, school and housing evidence and a first-year reporting calendar.

Frequently asked questions
Does CPR deregistration end Danish tax liability?
Not automatically. The residence and treaty facts require a separate tax analysis.
Does share exit tax apply below every holding?
No. Current thresholds, residence history, asset types and exclusions must be checked in the specific Danish file.
Should I sell or move crypto before leaving?
No transaction should be made solely from a summary. Obtain current Danish advice and preserve valuations and transaction history.
Can I keep my Danish employer?
Possibly, but payroll, social insurance, employment and corporate consequences must be coordinated.
