Cyprus Company Strike-Off Corrections: How to Verify Company Status
Official Gazette No. 4574, published on 25 September 2026, contains a correction to an earlier notice concerning the striking-off of a particular Cyprus company. It is a specific correction, not a general reversal of company strike-offs or a new rule affecting all Cyprus companies.
The lesson for directors, counterparties, investors and property buyers is straightforward: a company name in an earlier notice must not be treated as conclusive evidence of its present legal status without checking the subsequent official record.
What is the difference between a notice and a current registry position?
A Gazette announcement records a particular publication at a particular time. The current status of a company may require review of later corrections, filings, certificates, restoration records, orders or other registered events. Strike-off, restoration, voluntary winding-up and dissolution following a merger are different legal concepts and should not be used interchangeably.
Practical company-status checks before a transaction
Identify the company precisely by its registered name and HE number. Similar company names are not interchangeable.
Check the present Companies Register status and obtain appropriate up-to-date registry searches or certified documentation.
Review the original publication together with any subsequent Gazette corrections, restoration entries or other relevant updates.
Check the authority of the persons proposing to sign, transfer assets or give undertakings on behalf of the company.
Where a company is involved in a property purchase or sale, confirm title and ownership, existing charges and the capacity to enter into and complete the proposed transfer.
Why this matters in corporate and property transactions
The distinction can affect a sale agreement, security arrangement, acquisition, litigation decision, bank application or property transfer. An apparently simple assumption about corporate status may result in identifying the wrong party, requesting an ineffective signature or overlooking the legal process required to complete the transaction.
If the documents conflict
Do not resolve inconsistent company status records by assumption. Obtain the latest official evidence, consider seeking clarification from the Registrar and take advice on the effect of the relevant documents before relying on the company's authority or completion capacity.
