Cyprus Residence Permit Renewal Online: July 2026 Guide

Direct answer: Cyprus launched a digital service on 6 July 2026 for renewals in five residence permit categories for third-country nationals. It is a renewal service, not a route for a first residence application. Applicants use a verified CY Login account to submit documents and follow the application, but physical attendance is still required for identity, signature and biometric steps where applicable.

What the new online service changes

The service moves key renewal stages online. Depending on the category and the applicant's role, the permit holder, employer or authorised representative can enter the application, upload supporting documents, complete authorisations, receive status updates, pay the relevant fees after review and choose the service point for the required in-person stage.

It does not make the whole process remote. After successful review and electronic fee payment, the official category pages instruct the applicant to attend the selected service point within seven days for signature and biometric enrolment. Permit collection may also require attendance, so applicants should not assume that only one physical visit will ever be needed.

The five renewal categories available at launch

1. Residence permits for remunerated employment, where the renewal concerns employment with the same employer.

2. Residence permits for domestic employment, where the renewal concerns employment with the same employer.

3. Residence permits for employees of companies of foreign interests, where the renewal concerns the same company.

4. Certain family reunification residence permits included in the digital service.

5. Long-term resident permits included in the service.

The portal and official service page should be checked before starting because the precise route, applicant role and required documents depend on the category.

Renewal is not the same as a first application

A person who has not yet obtained the relevant Cyprus residence permit cannot use a renewal route as a substitute for the first application. A change of employer, company, family basis or immigration category may also require a different procedure. Confirm the correct legal basis before uploading documents or paying fees.

Who can submit the online renewal

The submitting person depends on the permit category. The general launch information identifies the permit holder, employer and authorised representative as possible users where applicable. The detailed long-term resident route lists the resident or an authorised representative, not an employer. Employers and representatives should confirm the role allowed for the selected route and hold clear authority before accessing or submitting personal information.

CY Login verification

A verified CY Login account is required. Creating an account is not necessarily the same as completing identity verification. Check that the account is active and verified before the permit expiry creates urgency. The account used should match the role of the person making the submission.

How the online renewal process works

1. Confirm that the current permit and intended renewal fall within one of the five digital categories.

2. Sign in with the appropriate verified CY Login account and select the correct applicant or employer role.

3. Complete the online form carefully and upload legible, current documents for that route.

4. Complete any required employer or representative authorisation within the digital workflow.

5. Monitor the application and respond promptly if the authority requests clarification or another document.

6. Pay the applicable fee when the service makes it available after review, and retain the electronic confirmation.

7. After successful review and electronic fee payment, attend the selected service point within seven days for signature and biometric enrolment. Follow any separate collection instructions issued later.

Documents and information to prepare

The exact checklist is category-specific. As a practical starting point, organise the current passport, existing residence permit, contact details, employment or family documents relevant to the route, authorisation records, and clear digital copies. Do not rely on a generic checklist if the portal or authority gives category-specific instructions.

Names, passport numbers, employer details and dates should be consistent across the form and uploads. If a document has changed, expired or contains a different spelling, resolve the issue before submission where possible and provide an explanation when required.

Passport validity rules also differ by route. The detailed foreign-interest company route specifies at least 12 months of remaining validity, the specified family reunification route at least nine months, and the long-term resident route requires validity covering at least two years. Applicants should follow the requirement shown for their own category.

Routes not included in the five-category launch

The July 2026 launch notice does not list visitor temporary residence permits commonly called Pink Slips, student permits, the Digital Nomad Visa, the EU Blue Card, or permanent residence by investment among the five online renewal categories. That does not mean those routes have ended. It means applicants should follow the route-specific official procedure instead of assuming this portal applies.

When should an applicant start

The online windows are category-specific. Remunerated employment and domestic employment renewals may be submitted between 60 and 30 days before expiry. Renewals for employees of foreign-interest companies, the specified family reunification categories and long-term residents may be submitted between 90 and 30 days before expiry. Use the correct window for the selected route and allow time for CY Login verification and document preparation.

Common problems to avoid

Using the renewal portal for a first application, choosing the wrong permit category, assuming a change of employer is covered, submitting through an unverified CY Login account, uploading unreadable files, or missing a request for further information can delay progress. Keep a copy of the final submission, uploads, payment confirmation and status messages.

Common questions

Can a first residence application be made through this service?

No. The service announced on 6 July 2026 is for renewals in the listed categories.

Is the entire process online?

No. Documents and key workflow stages are online, but the applicant must still attend the selected service point for the required physical steps.

Can an employer renew a permit after the worker changes company?

The launch information describes employment renewals with the same employer or, for foreign-interest companies, the same company. A change should be checked under the appropriate procedure rather than assumed to be a renewal.
