This fictional composite reflects common issues and does not describe a specific client, outcome or guaranteed route.

The family

Lukas owns 30% of a German GmbH and signs important customer contracts. His spouse Anna works for an unrelated German employer. They plan to move to Paphos with two school-age children, retain a German investment property and rent in Cyprus for the first year.

What they initially assume

They assume they only need to deregister in Germany, obtain Cyprus MEU1 certificates and open a bank account. They also expect Lukas to continue managing the GmbH and Anna to work remotely without changes.

What changes the analysis

Lukas has a potentially relevant qualifying shareholding, active management authority and remuneration. Anna’s employer must address work location, payroll, social insurance and corporate exposure. The retained German property and family timeline matter to the tax-residence evidence. Each child needs a school and document plan.

The coordinated workstreams

German departure and §6 AStG review; valuation and transaction timing; GmbH management and signing-authority analysis; Cyprus residence registration for each person; Anna’s remote-work arrangement; school and healthcare planning; lease and address evidence; banking/KYC; and a first-year Germany - Cyprus tax calendar.

What Cyprus Law Chambers would coordinate

The Cyprus residence and family file, Cyprus lease or property work, KYC and source-of-funds preparation, Cyprus company/employment/contracts where required, and the overall project sequence. A licensed German adviser would provide German tax and corporate advice.

Key decisions before the flight

Will Lukas remain in day-to-day management? Will contracts be signed from Cyprus? Is a Cyprus operating company commercially needed? Has Anna’s employer approved the arrangement? Is the German property available for family use? Which school and Cyprus district fit the work plan?

Practical takeaway

A founder’s personal relocation, the foreign company and the family move are three connected projects. Completing only the residence registration can leave the highest-risk issues unresolved.

What the relocation review should produce

A coordinated move should produce a route for each family member, the permitted activity, document and certification requirements, critical dates and the links between housing, work, company, tax, healthcare, schooling and departure-country advice.

The client should leave with a route map, evidence pack, critical-date calendar, first-year decision plan and a responsibility matrix showing which adviser owns each workstream.
